Learners perform data analytics and serve as a team executive and player agent representative. Learners reflect on their skills and complete a roadmap to a position within the sports arena.
This course provides an introduction to the fundamental ideas in applying data analytics to issues surrounding key regulatory and management functions within the sports industry. Sports as an industry is increasingly relying on data analytics for more effective deployment of resources and assessment of performance in areas ranging from player productivity to fan engagement, talent identification and development, coaching, sponsorship, and marketing. This course and its successors will help you understand this new role of data analysis in the sports business.
There is a focus on data science techniques as applied to sports datasets. Students will interpret outcomes of data analysis within the context of a sports calendar; identify provisions of the CBA and SPC; and gain an understanding of how the provisions impact decisions on team and roster management.
In this course, we will discuss the interplay of law, data analysis, and athlete representation using the athlete's career path trajectory as the focus. The intent is to introduce data analytical tools, laws, & regulations applicable to athlete representation throughout various stages of an athlete’s career. The primary focus is on athlete development and representation within the regulatory frameworks of federal and state laws and other pertinent rulemaking authorities, including pro sports unions.
Upon completion of the course, learners will be able to define a multi-event facility enterprise; describe several advantages of in-house and for-hire management operations; discuss how to use data to make informed management decisions; and list several key event management critical functions.
